Groceries yay!
We’re REALLY lucky! First off, the specialty store (glutino) I wanted to check out are only opened from 9-12 on Saturday mornings else it’s during the week, so I didn’t go today (learned this at 1pm) and the other bakery that’s a little farther out, is on holiday and will only be back in business after Aug. 14th. So, I set off to our local Loblaws only to find that on top of having a few select things in their “bio” section that we’re also labeled Gluten-Free, they have a small shelf section with ONLY glutino and another brand products! YAY! So I can get some everyday staples from our normal supermarket (albeit they are pricier overall than another store we went to) but it will be well worth it. Other things like pasta and other more various snacks I’ll have to get at the specialty store.
So I stocked her up with some rice krispies type GF cereal and some corn pop type ones too (I heard some pumpkins liked those :P) I found her pancake batter mix and some cream of rice to replace her oatmeal (hopefully she’ll love it just because I’ll put raspberries in there :P) and I also found some arrowroot cookies (they are made in a plant that does GF exclusively, so no cross-contamination possible
) and some cereal bars
I also found her some GF bread and bought her some lactose free milk, cheese and margarine.
I think we’re set for a couple days until we see the dietitian (is this the right term?)
YAY! And it wasn’t that bad. I also cleaned out a bit of the cupboards, rearranged a few things and her stuff is on the opposite side of the kitchen. More for me so I can really remember to be extra careful not to contaminate her stuff when I prepare foods!
All in all, not as hard as I had envisioned finding stuff for her. Of course, every time I put something in the cart (even though we are still purposefully giving her gluten until her biopsy) I read the labels and learned that half the things we’ll be making for supper and lunches this week she’ll never get to eat again, not with the store bought varieties. Like hot chicken sauce, no go from now on! Any type of cereal, cookie, cake mix. I don’t know how we’ll do things later, I imagine that if she DOES eat something that has hidden gluten in it, the problem arises that she might not have any symptoms at all (no cramping or anything) and we might not know it until she gets a control blood tests (which I read are done annually if I’m not mistaken). Anyways, I guess that’s a question I’ll need to ask the dietitian isn’t it ![]()
