Time to Start – Elliot

I was awaiting their call with such trepidation! I had to keep myself from calling them up when their target date came and passed with no word. Turns out he was already here but was detained in the ICU for a few days seeing as he was still early despite his 11+ pounds and had to stay a few extra days to make sure he was perfect in every way… Which he is! This little cutie was one big boy, although he still seemed so tiny to me! And bonus, he was SO good, slept through the whole session, no matter how many times I moved him from bed, to crib, to arms and back.

Time to Wait – Kim

This was one of the most creative sessions I had had in a long time. I was energized after having spent the previous day at the PPOC Accreditation judging in Montreal. I had the pleasure of writing down what the judges said to each of the 800 images they judged that day! It really lit a fire under me to push my creative juices into action. We not only got some creatively awesome images, but we also started thinking about their upcoming newborn session and what we could do to tie them both together… to be continued…

Another facet of art that I’ve always felt attracted to is interiors. I actually studied interior design and worked 2 years in the business before I moved towards technical drawings (I was a wiz with Autocad!). Even though I’ve moved away from that world over the years, I still design in my head, I still notice details and the craftsmanship behind every interior design.

I’ve had the pleasure of dipping my toe back into that world recently by photographing this interior which was designed by Robert Séguin, Designer. I`m looking forward to showing more work of this nature in the coming months!

It’s official! I’m an Accredited Professional Photographer of Canada!

This past weekend I had the great opportunity to attend an accreditation judging. Not only that, but I was able to help by noting the judges comments, in French or English as was warranted, and I must say that actually noting each of the comments really gave me a new appreciation for all the things they look at when judging images! It was also a rather humbling experience! Seeing so many “Salon Quality Images”, as the judges called them, was incredible. Those images were simply stunning.

All in all, they ended up judging over 80 submissions between 9am and 6pm (at 10 images per submission, that’s over 800 images!) on Saturday, which left a little more than 50 submissions to judge on Sunday. Having a prior engagement on Sunday morning, I wasn’t able to attend and therefore did not see my own submission judged.

But, on the bright side, I passed my Child & Infant Portrait Accreditation and couldn’t be happier! See for yourself the accepted images below.

What I love about business portraits done in your work environment, is that it is personalized and it keeps you at ease. Maitre Dubé is a busy man, and like many others, taking time out of his busy day to get himself to a photographer is just more than his schedule can allow. This way, he only needed to carve out an hour of his day and it was done! He was worried his busy work area wouldn’t lend itself to professional portraits, but you will agree that there’s not a paper out of place to be seen.

Time Together – Nat!

I met Nathalie by pure chance! We were both going to a Toronto workshop and needed a roomie to cut hotel costs. Well, on top of both being French even having to share a queen bed (seriously!), we totally hit it off and became fast friends! We don’t see each other nearly enough, but that’s a side effect from living 2 hours apart, both having young families and trying to keep our businesses and careers alive. They are the funniest most energetic family ever. The kids are constantly cracking each other up! Very lively indeed.

Time to Grow – 2012 Preschool

I always enjoy visiting the Learning in Progress preschool! I love to see how much the younger ones have grown and changed. The little lady in green was SO shy last year, I barely got a small smile out of her and look at her beaming proudly this year! So sure and confident! Makes my skin tingle with pride to see them grow up! Sadly, to me, she’ll be in Kindergarten next fall and I will miss her infectious smile! However, new faces will be there to greet me and more shy ones will come, needing me to make a fool out of myself if only to get a small glimpse of a smile for their parents to have.

Truly, I only photograph the kids at this preschool and none other, but the privilege is all mine!
