The October weekend after Toronto, I had the great pleasure of photographing my great friends and their two wonderful boys. The fall colors could not have been more perfect and the boys were great sports, sniffles and all! They did great!

Toronto Bootcamp!

In early October I found myself taking part in this fantastic small but very insightful workshop in Toronto, made possible by Kerry Allen and his fantastic site, Photography School House. They usually feature a free webinar every week or so! Worth every second! A few images of our very gorgeous models.

Girls, I’ll send these along very shortly!

And finally, some of the other awesome peeps I met there, all fantastic photogs in their own rights!

You can find her awesome work here at Julie Rhodes Photography

My now dear friend Nathalie from Lilifoto

And a quick thinking pic, I was taking a picture of the gentleman in the back, who was also photographing myself, and another one of our attendees put his camera in front of mine so I quickly refocused! He thought to “ruin” my shot, but actually made it better! haha! And I would totally mention each of their names except that I honestly can’t bring them back to mind! I’m not entirely sure who’s arm that was, Todd?

If you know me personally, you totally know that I have the hardest time with names! I will usually repeat someone’s name after they’ve told me and I also have to connect their name with something particular about the situation, themselves, ANYTHING to help me remember. At one time I think I knew everyone’s name there, but alas, that information is buried in my brain somewhere!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Just a couple hours shy, but with 2 sick little girls at home instead of with extended family, I think it’s safer to head to bed early ourselves!

However, couldn’t go to bed before saying MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone, HAPPY HOLIDAYS & be safe!

Our own family card, which would have been printed as a folded 5×7.

Going out with my Local Photog Club, APAL {Laval Photographer}

One weekend in September I had the chance to participate in our local photography club’s Nature outing. This was a great change of pace.

This fern was in the middle of the forest itself, but a lone ray of sunlight lit it up as if it were made of gold!

Having fun with some extension tubes, trying to get just the right part of it focused. I had to stop breathing and wait for a lull in the breeze. Probably spent 10 minutes on this lone flower!

We honestly lucked out this day, this Blue Heron just kept posing for us without a care. This I took from the other side of a little area of water, but at one point I was literally a few feet from him and he didn’t leave! Once or twice he would go to the middle of the river and then when some of us left the mini “lagoon” he would come back to pose some more! It was quite unheard of! Photographing a bird usually so shy with a 50mm and getting great close-ups is normally impossible, but that’s what this is!

If you look closely enough, you can make out people beneath the bridge on the water’s edge… that would be some of the other photogs of our club getting their own nature shots!

I kept walking through the forest of “les Chutes Wilson” and was just amazed at the beauty! I could have posted 2 dozen of just my favorite images and still have more to share. One of the last images I captured are of this area bathed in sunlight through some still green leaves and more of a light golden color. It was breathtaking. This image really doesn’t do it justice, but it comes close!

Although I’m no landscape photographer, it sure is fun to take a more Zen approach to photography and simply let the scene around me dictate what I should take from it. I should do this again soon, with winter whites as my muse.

Season of plenty! {Laval Children Photographer}

Where to start? I’ll post something about this fall every few days and into the new year. I have a lot to share, but had little time to share it!

Let’s start with Back to School!

My eldest girl started Kindergarten! No seriously, no kidding, I’m a mom to a kindergartener! In hind sight, I can totally believe it, but I was still a little shocked some days in the beginning. It would take me by surprise in the middle of the day, especially around nap time. The house would be SO quiet. Not to mention the littlest one quite enjoyed the freedom of play. Well, she did start saying she missed her big sister after a couple hours. Thank goodness for imaginations :)

She also took her very first BIG YELLOW BUS ride! She rides a good half hour to school morning and night. Makes for some LONG days and some tearful evenings. Me thinks it might be high time to give them both a vitamin boost for the winter!

And then, my youngest went and grew up to start Pre-K! So not fair… then again, guess what I did the very first day when both of them were away… 2 hours of blissful NOTHING! No blogging, no working, no phone, no cooking, no cleaning, no nothing. I could enjoy a book without being interrupted, needing to clean someone, feed someone, etc. Good times. Of course, life goes on and all things do need to get done ;)

Hello everyone! I have been literally quite swamped with work/life/school/family for the past few weeks, heck, the last season entirely!

Work wise, you will all get a glimpse in the coming days. I have quite a few things to show off and share and I am really holding myself back or I’d do one mega post and then have nothing to say! lol

Life, well, it’s always busy it seems, trying to consolidate everything you NEED to do, with everything you SHOULD do and still having time for those things you WANT to do.

As for School, well, keep reading this week and you’ll know ALL about that too ;)

And also at home, you know me, always the renovator! I just can’t stop “fixing” things around the house to my liking. Comes from loving to work with my hands and being an Interior Designer by original trade. I’ll throw in some pics of the results in the new year in between other things. It should give me enough time to sew the window coverings!

Finally, I give you, our own family portrait for this holiday.

Don’t look for it in your *snail* mail box, I don’t quite think I can make the cut-off, but I may try to get at least 2 dozen out the door if I can! However, I WILL post the final result on New Year’s Eve before we leave to visit with family :)

A few bloopers to let you all know how truly *fantastic* it is to photograph your own family (*denotes a sarcastic tone)…

You can bet that 2011 will mark the year we go ourselves to a pro to get our own portraits done. And I know just the photographer for the job! I met her in Toronto and became fast friends, Nathalie Lamy from Lilifoto. If you’re in the Ottawa region, I highly suggest you schedule your own family/child portraits with her!

What else is in store for Nayanna Arts in the New Year? Well, I know of two very pregnant & very beautiful ladies that each have a gorgeous family to boot! Hoping they both call for some maternity and newborn shoots sometime in January & February. *wink wink girls!*

Sometime during the summer we will definitely get together with Lilifoto and get some great portraits done of our own family.

Oh and saving the best, in my humble opinion, for last, our new website should launch in the new year! Cannot WAIT to share it all with you! So stay tuned!

I’ve been putting together my latest order and was inspired to make it extra special as they were our first clients to order from our brand spanking new Investment Guide. I’m also currently translating it to French for everyone else to enjoy the benefits as well! The Ochoa Family are going to get SUCH a treat when I deliver their order! They are the very first to get Purchase Level Gifts! Yes, that’s right! GIFTS simply for choosing Nayanna Arts as your personal photography solution! See for yourself:

Isn’t it the cutest thing?? It’s a 3″ by 3″ booklet with up to 10 full bleed images!
I personally designed the template used to place some of their favorite images in there!

And then I place all three into these cute little organza bags!

All Gift Prints are wrapped in tissue paper and then packaged with cardboard & ribbon.
Every order comes with a little surprise, which is also packaged within an organza bag.

Here you can see what a 16×16 mounted Storyboard can look like.
I’ve gotten so many compliments on this, they are going to be amazed when they see it in person!

Their “pièce de résistance” an 11×14 canvas of their favorite image.
I think it was THE item they couldn’t pass up at their viewing session, and it turned out fabulous!

The fully finished backing all ready to hang!

[lang_en]If I were to be asked what my favorite part of photographing is, I would have to say, my clients. And I truly do mean that! Family after family, I am always amazed at how happy, thankful and truly awesome they all are! This latest family was no different, or actually, they were. They were even “awesomer” ;) Take some extended family, a language barrier that actually wasn’t a barrier at all, a teenager, a preschooler, a photographer that left her brain some equipment home, some mosquitoes, humidity, a grey flat sky and then add rain to it all. You might think: what a disaster! Well, it couldn’t be further from the truth! These fine people were all about being happy, going with the flow and trying things without a negative word in sight! It couldn’t have gone better! Don’t take my word for it, check these out![/lang_en][lang_fr]Si quelqu’un me demandait ce que je préfère de mes sessions photos, honnêtement, je dirais mes clients!

Remember little “L” and this maternity? Well, meet baby R!! She was just absolutely GORGEOUS! I mean, just LOOK at all that hair!! And there is NO taming that. NONE. It just flares out naturally! lol She was just a doll awake and asleep. Full of smiles already (barely 1 month old too!) and just putty once asleep. A-dorable. Merci la famille pour une superbe journee en votre compagnie! This is my favorite so far and I couldn’t resist posting it asap!

Remember this fantastic double maternity? Well, THE BABIES ARE HERE!! They were due about 2 weeks apart (18th & 27th) and were born just 4 days apart! As luck would have it, I got to photograph this little man yesterday at just 10 days. He is SUCH an awake baby! Aware of everything around him, not a fusser AT ALL. Can I order 3 of those? Once we finally got his tummy full {hello growth spurt feedings} he was OUT. I think the best moments of all, to me, was when he would just fall back to sleep in my arms (mom smelled WAY too good to sleep :) ) and when he would hear either mom or dad talk, you could totally SEE it in his eyes that he recognized their voice. AMAZING. I LOVE my job!
